Reckless Driving

Reckless driving is the bane of our society in todays world. Thousands of innocent people die every year because some moron wants to drive as fast as he or she can to impress their mates, among other reasons of course, a few of which well delve into in this article.

Reckless driving is the next step up from careless driving and carries with it several penalties which are often attached to convictions. Thousands of people have been taken by a momentary lapse of sanity and as a consequence have been banned from driving for life because of something stupid they did when they were young.

Different states have different kinds of punishments for the offenders, and they are all quite serious!

Some of the most common reasons for reckless driving are listed below:

Alcohol ” No surprises there, top of the list is being under the influence of alcohol while driving. The punishments for this tend to be more severe than the other reasons because there are two charges, driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving. The artificial high that alcohol gives you can cause over confidence and adrenaline bursts tend to make people want to go as fast as possible.

Peer Pressure ” When people (particularly young people) drive with a group of friends, it is common for the friends to goad the driver into overtaking a particular vehicle or generally just to drive faster, which results in reckless driving. To be charged with reckless driving, you dont actually have to cause a crash, you just have to be seen, by human eyes or by video camera, driving recklessly.

Drugs ” No real need to explain this one is there?

Road Rage ” This is a relatively new cause for reckless driving, the most common causes are people getting angry because of continuous congestion and people seeming to drive badly, or it could just be bad manners!

It is by no standards an extensive list, but there are enough reasons to put thousands of people in hospital each year and thousands more in cemeteries. Reckless driving is simply not acceptable whatever the reason and it is up to the citizens to take a strong stand against it.
